U.S. Mayors Unite to Make Green Schools a Priority

The U.S. Conference of Mayors has announced an initiative to join forces with the U.S. Green Building Council to promote green schools. The USCM has created the Mayors’ Alliance for Green Schools, a coalition of mayors seeking to accelerate the implementation of programs supporting a 2007 USCM resolution calling for green schools for all children within a generation.

IBC Masonry Design Provisions Streamlined
The Masonry Society and the Masonry Alliance for Codes and Standards recently co-sponsored a series of code changes to simplify the design requirements in the International Building Code (IBC) by removing parts and portions of the Masonry Standards Joint Committee Code and Specification (TMS 402/ACI 530/ASCE 5 and TMS 602/ACI 530.1/ASCE 6) requirements that had been transcribed into the IBC.

Winners Announced in Dry Stone Walling Competition
The Dry Stone Conservancy (Lexington, Ky.) held its fifth annual National Walling Competition in October in Pleasant Hill, Ky., which featured 38 masons from around the nation and even one builder from Scotland.
