Remembering Paul Odom

The masonry industry lost a true titan and a dedicated leader with the passing of Paul Odom. Known for his unwavering commitment to his craft and his community, Paul leaves behind a legacy defined not just by the structures he helped build, but by the foundation he laid for the future of the trade.
While many knew him as the "artistic manipulator of a burnt clay product" (a title he wore with pride), his impact extended far beyond the job site. Paul was a driving force within the MCAA, where he served on the board from 2011 to 2020. His leadership culminated in his tenure as MCAA Chairman from 2018 to 2020, a period marked by his ability to bring people together to advance the industry's common goals.
Paul's dedication to advocacy was evident in his role as Legislative Chair for the MCAA, where he championed the interests of mason contractors on a national stage. His vision was instrumental in major industry initiatives, including the establishment of the Concrete Masonry Checkoff Program, a milestone that will foster innovation and growth for generations to come.
His contributions were recognized with the industry's highest honors. In 2021, Paul was inducted into the MCAA Masonry Hall of Fame, a testament to a career spent elevating the trade. That same year, he received the prestigious C. DeWitt Brown Leadman Award, further acknowledging his lifelong dedication and leadership.
Closer to home, Paul was a pillar of the Texas masonry community. He was a founding member of the Central Texas Masonry Contractors Association (CTMCA) and served multiple terms as president of both the CTMCA and the Texas Masonry Council. Whether mentoring young masons or leading national committees, Paul believed in the simple yet powerful philosophy:
"You've got to make it happen for your life... In order for me to have gotten here, I must have done something right."
Together with his wife and partner, Susie, Paul founded P and S Masonry (later Legacy Masonry) and Spec Rents, businesses built on the values of hard work and integrity.
Paul Odom will be remembered not only for his professional accolades but for his heart for people and his passion for the industry. He was a leader who didn't just demand excellence; he inspired it. As we reflect on his life, it is clear that his hard work has indeed "helped lay the foundation to keep the masonry industry strong for generations of masons to come." He will be greatly missed.
