Wayne Newton’s Casa de Shenandoah Tour

Words: Jeff BuczkiewiczFor the first time, Mr. Las Vegas, Wayne Newton is opening up his 52-acre ranch–Casa de Shenandoah–to the public.

Recognized worldwide as “Mr. Las Vegas,” entertainer Wayne Newton is known for his signature song, “Danke Schoen,” plus many more hit singles including “Daddy, Don’t You Walk So Fast,” “Red Roses For a Blue Lady” and “Years.” He has recorded and released 165 albums to date. In a business that is often volatile and marked by short-lived successes, Wayne has instead thrived through the years to perform live to more than 40 million people. He has performed over 25,000 shows in Las Vegas alone. Without reading a note of music, he plays 13 instruments. He exemplifies the talent, glamour and energy that is Las Vegas.

After moving to Las Vegas at the age of 15–and many years of working six nights a week at the lounge of the Fremont Hotel & Casino–Wayne Newton purchased the first five acres of what is now Casa de Shenandoah in 1966. It was raw land, with no well or electricity. The first house was built between 1966 and 1968, along with four stalls for a horse barn. He lived in that home with his parents and older brother. He then acquired additional acres between 1969 and 1972.

Construction of the Mansion began in 1973 and was completed in 1976. Wayne continued to purchase contiguous land as it became available, resulting in the 52 acres the estate consists of today.

With artesian lakes and wells, eight homes, two barns, 60 stalls, three arenas, 60 purebred Arabian horses and numerous exotic animals, this property once considered to be “in the country of the Nevada desert” is now in the heart of Las Vegas and is a historic landmark that has welcomed presidents, kings and countless celebrities through its magnificent golden gates.

In 2008, CBS News named Casa de Shenandoah one of the Top Five Homes in the country (others included The White House) and one of the Top Three “Priciest Pads” by MTV Cribs. In addition, many television shows and movies have filmed on the estate, such as Vegas Vacation, The Amazing Race, The Rockford Files and Vega$ … just to name a few.

This tour comes with a personal recommendation from Jeff Buczkiewicz, MCAA President who has completed the tour this past summer. “The tour is not what I thought it would be. To be honest I thought it would be a little corny, but the tour was fantastic. I thoroughly enjoyed it and wanted to spend more time on the property. It is not just about Wayne Newton, there is so much more history at the ranch. I left with a new found respect for Wayne Newton and this gorgeous property just minutes from the strip. Before I went I barely knew who he was. I know you will find it very enjoyable. I have been to Graceland and I have to say this beats it. Not even close.”

In addition to the tour, the ladies will have breakfast at the Aria Café before being transported over to the ranch. It will be a great day for the ladies.

The program will be held Tuesday, January 17, 2017 from 8:30 - 1:00 PM during the MCAA Convention at the World of Concrete/World of Masonry in Las Vegas.
