Preserving Masonry Aesthetics with Concealed Lintel Systems

Masonry has long been valued for its ability to create buildings with character, permanence, and visual appeal. Features such as arches, deep reveals, corbelling, and decorative brickwork continue to be popular design elements in modern architecture.



However, supporting masonry above openings can sometimes introduce visible structural components that disrupt the intended appearance of the façade. Traditional steel lintels may provide the necessary support, but exposed steel can detract from the clean, uninterrupted look architects are trying to achieve.

Concealed lintel systems offer an alternative by supporting masonry loads while remaining hidden within the wall assembly. This allows the masonry itself to remain the focal point, preserving the appearance of traditional all-masonry construction while meeting the demands of modern building design.

 

Because concealed lintels are custom engineered, they can accommodate a variety of architectural features, including arches, decorative brick patterns, deep soffits, and complex opening geometries. They can also be designed for use with a range of backup wall conditions, providing flexibility across different project types.

As architects continue to blend traditional masonry aesthetics with contemporary construction methods, concealed lintel systems provide a solution that supports both design intent and structural performance. By keeping support systems out of sight, they help ensure the focus remains where it belongs: on the beauty and craftsmanship of masonry.
