Sustainability Conference

Words: Ann Wolter"Sustainability" means different things to different professions, and sometimes even within one profession there are variations. With that in mind, the Rocky Mountain Masonry Institute (RMMI) is co-hosting a conference on Sustainability in Denver in late September. Along with the Rocky Mountain Cement Council and CEMEX, RMMI will present a plethora of seminars on the various angles and interpretations of sustainability.

In order to set the stage for the topic, the conference will kick off with a keynote address on "What is Sustainability." The conference will be targeted to those companies within the industry that focus on using masonry for LEEDS projects for sustainability.

Details on the conference location, dates and registration materials will be available on the RMMI website beginning in late July. For more information, go to www.rmmi.org, or e-mail info@rmmi.org.

About 140 golfers participated in the annual RMMI golf tournament in late May at Plum Creek Golf and Country Club in Castle Rock, Colo.

The architects in Durango, Colo., beat out those in Telluride for a free seminar on the International Building Codes in May. RMMI Technical Director Diane Travis held a friendly professional competition between architects in the two towns to see who could pre-register more participants for the seminar. As part of her annual summer Mountain Tour, Travis also presented the seminar in Grand Junction, Aspen and Vail. The presentation was co-sponsored by AIA Colorado and the Brickyard of Grand Junction. In August and September, Travis will present the seminar in Cheyenne, Casper, Jackson Hole and Sheridan, Wyo.; Billings, Bozeman, Kalispell and Missoula, Mont.; and Steamboat Springs, Colo. For more information about the seminars, visit www.rmmi.org, or e-mail dianet@rmmi.org.
