EV&A Architects' Edward Vance Elected to Fellowship in AIA

Ed VanceLas Vegas-based EV&A Architects announced that CEO and founder Edward Vance was selected for elevation to Fellowship in the American Institute of Architects (AIA). Vance is the only recipient from the state of Nevada to receive this prestigious recognition this year.

"It's extremely humbling and certainly and an incredible honor to be included in this elite group of architects and to be recognized by my peers nationally," said Vance. His company is a specialty design firm serving the hospitality, commercial, and healthcare industries. For more than 33 years, he has served his clients, his community and the profession of architecture. Vance is a registered architect in seven states and is certified by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB).

Founded in 1952, the College of Fellows is composed of members of the AIA who are elected to Fellowship by a jury of their peers. Less than two percent of all architects achieve Fellowship, and it is one of the highest honors the AIA can bestow upon a member. Election to Fellowship not only recognizes the achievements of the architect as an individual, but also honors a model architect who has made a significant contribution to architecture and society on a national level.

The 2014 AIA Jury of Fellows recognized 139 members to its prestigious College of Fellows this year. Out of more than 80,000 AIA members, just over 3,000 members have been distinguished with this honor since its inception. Vance will receive his Fellowship medal during the Investiture of Fellows Ceremony at the AIA 2014 National Convention in Chicago. The Investiture Ceremony will be held at Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University on Friday, June 27, 2014.

Four Different Types of Natural Stone Used For Masonry

Natural stone has been a staple in masonry for centuries. Before it was used to transform home and landscape designs on residential properties, it was used for historical buildings and some of the most iconic destinations in the world.

Advice to the Beginners

The best advice I could give anyone that is starting a career in masonry is that first and foremost, you must "know" yourself. What do you like to do? What would you like in a working environment? Do you like to be outside? Do you enjoy physical activity
